Hartstown Community School Transition year 2017/18

 

A one year voluntary programme which aims

  • to bridge  the gap between junior  and senior cycle
  • to promote maturity among its participants
  • to assist each individual to develop as a person
  • to create independent learners
  • to develop links with wider community
  • to maintain links with the Leaving certificate programme

 

Key elements

  • One or two classes depending on the numbers
  • Mixed ability classes
  • Work experience in February
  • Mid year assessment in January
  • End of year assessment in May
  • Parents night in May

 

 

Assessment

 

A blend of continuous and modular assessment and uses the following criteria

  • Distinction 85%
  • Merit 70%
  • Pass    60%

 

 

Finances

 

  • A contribution of 320 Euros is asked at the start of the year to cover some costs while additional costs are met by the school
