Oh to Marvel at the wonders….

All 6th Year Art students were invited to see The Book of Kells in Trinity College, to see the artefacts in The National History Museum and the Paintings on display in the National Gallery of Ireland, from Irish and International artists.

The trip was on the 21st of November 2017.

Students could marvel at the amazing details in the Book of Kells and how it was made in the 9th Century, they were also able to walk through the Long Room in the Old Library. Students saw the objects that have only seen images of and studied in their books in Art History, like the Bronze Age Jewellery the Sun disc, Lunulae, many Torc’s and the Famous Glenisheen Gorget. Also on display was the most Famous Ardagh Chalice and the Tara Brooch.

We spent the afternoon in The National Gallery, here we saw paintings, by Yeats, Leech, Van Gogh and Caravaggio to name just a few.

It is so worthwhile to see in real life the actual pieces; the day had a touch of sadness to it as this was our last Art trip out with Sixth Years.
